Sealer Types & Finishes

• → Penetrating sealers — soak into the concrete and protect from within, leaving a natural look with no surface sheen. They are low-maintenance and don't change the appearance much, which suits a lot of plain driveways and paths.
• → Topical acrylic sealers — form a protective film on the surface, enhance colour and come in matte, gloss and wet-look finishes. They make decorative concrete pop but need resealing more often as the film wears.
• → Matte vs gloss — matte keeps a natural appearance and hides marks, while gloss and wet-look deepen colour and add shine; wet-look is popular on exposed aggregate and coloured concrete.
• → Anti-slip additives — we can add a fine grit to topical sealers for grip on pool surrounds, ramps and other areas that get wet.

Our Process — From Quote to Clean-Up

• → Site visit and assessment — we come out, measure the area, check whether it is bare concrete or has old sealer on it, look for oil stains, tannin, efflorescence and cracks, and work out what cleaning or stripping is needed first.
• → Written fixed quote — you get an itemised quote covering cleaning, prep, the sealer type and finish, number of coats and any anti-slip additive, so the scope is clear before you commit.
• → Booking and scheduling — once you approve the quote we lock in a date, and because sealing needs dry weather we keep an eye on the CQ forecast and will reschedule rather than seal in the wet or over a damp slab.
• → Cleaning and prep — we pressure-clean the surface, treat oil and tannin stains, and where there is old failed sealer we strip it back so the new coat bonds to sound concrete. Cracks and minor defects are addressed at this stage.
• → Drying — concrete must be properly dry before sealing or moisture gets trapped and the finish goes cloudy, so we allow adequate drying time after cleaning, which in our climate usually means leaving it overnight or longer.
• → Application day — we mask off adjoining surfaces, then apply the sealer evenly by roller or sprayer, working in manageable sections to keep a wet edge and an even finish with no lap marks.
• → Number of coats — most jobs get two coats, with the first soaking in or sealing the surface and the second building the protection and finish; we allow the correct recoat time between them rather than rushing.
• → Cure time — we let the sealer cure before the area goes back into use, and we will tell you when you can walk on it and when you can drive on it, which differs between foot traffic and vehicles.
• → Final clean-up — we remove all masking, tidy the site, take our gear and rubbish with us, and leave you with a sealed surface and simple advice on how to look after it.
