Polished Concrete Floors in Rockhampton
Polished concrete has become the floor of choice for a lot of modern Central Queensland homes and commercial spaces, and it is easy to see why. It is one of the toughest floors you can have, it never needs recoating, and it keeps that cool, low-maintenance feel that suits our climate. There are no tiles to crack, no grout lines to scrub and no timber to swell — just a solid, sealed slab that looks sharp and shrugs off daily traffic.
Rockhampton Concreting Co polishes concrete floors for new builds, renovations, shops, cafes, showrooms and offices throughout Rockhampton, Gracemere, Yeppoon and the wider CQ region. We work with both freshly poured slabs and existing concrete, grinding back the surface in stages with progressively finer diamond pads until we reach the gloss level and stone exposure you are after.
Because the finish is built into the concrete itself rather than applied on top, there is nothing to peel, flake or wear through. We quote every floor in writing after we have seen the slab, so you know the price and the expected finish before we lift a grinder.
What We Offer
- Full mechanical polishing of new and existing concrete floors
- Grind-and-seal finishes for a faster, cost-effective option
- Matte, satin and high-gloss sheen levels to suit the space
- Cream, salt-and-pepper and full-stone aggregate exposure
- Crack and chip repair before polishing
- Polished floors for homes, shops, cafes, showrooms and offices
- Densifying and sealing for stain and abrasion resistance
- Honest advice on whether your slab suits a full polish
Grind-and-Seal vs Full Mechanical Polish
There are two main ways to get a polished-look concrete floor, and they suit different budgets and slabs. We will walk you through which one makes sense for your space rather than pushing the dearer option.
- → Full mechanical polish — the slab is ground and honed through multiple diamond grits, then densified so the concrete itself becomes hard and reflective. There is no topical coating, so there is nothing to peel and the floor keeps its look for decades with minimal upkeep.
- → Grind-and-seal — the slab is ground to expose the aggregate you want, then a clear topical sealer is rolled on to lock in the look. It costs less and goes down faster, and it is a good fit where the existing slab is not ideal for a full mechanical polish.
- → Both give you a smooth, easy-clean surface — the difference is in cost, longevity and how the sheen is achieved.
Gloss Levels and Aggregate Exposure
Two choices shape the final look of a polished floor: how shiny it is, and how much stone shows through. We grind a test patch where it helps so you can see the direction before we commit the whole floor.
- → Matte — a flat, low-sheen finish that hides marks and traffic well, popular in busy commercial spaces.
- → Satin — a soft, even gloss that lifts the room without throwing harsh reflections; a common pick for CQ homes.
- → High-gloss — a deep, mirror-like shine that reflects light and makes showrooms and retail floors pop.
- → Cream finish — minimal grinding, so you see mostly the smooth cement surface with the odd fleck of sand.
- → Salt-and-pepper — a light grind that reveals fine sand and small stones for a subtle, speckled look.
- → Full stone exposure — a deeper grind that brings out the larger aggregate for a bold, terrazzo-like effect.
Why Polished Concrete Suits Central Queensland
Polished concrete is a smart fit for the way we live up here. The slab acts as thermal mass, holding a cool, stable temperature underfoot through the worst of the Rockhampton heat, which can take some of the load off the air-con. There are no coatings to yellow in the sun, no grout to grow mould in the wet season, and nothing to lift or bubble.
It is also one of the easiest floors to keep clean — a dust mop and the occasional damp mop is all most floors need. For homes that want a modern, open feel, or commercial spaces that need a tough floor that still looks the part, it is hard to beat. The only trade-off is that concrete is hard and can be cold in winter, so we will talk through whether it suits the room before you commit.
Our Process — From Quote to Clean-Up
A polished floor lives or dies on preparation and patience, so we run every job to the same clear sequence rather than rushing a grinder over the slab and hoping. From the first site visit to the final clean-up, you know what is happening and when, and the floor is only signed off once the gloss and stone exposure match what we agreed.
- → Site visit and assessment — we inspect the slab, grind a small test patch where it helps, and check the concrete's hardness, flatness and aggregate so we know what finish it can realistically take.
- → Written fixed quote — you get an itemised quote in writing covering grind, hone and polish stages, the agreed gloss level and stone exposure, any crack or chip repair, and densifying and sealing.
- → Booking and scheduling — we lock in a date that suits you. Polishing is a dust-managed indoor process, but we still plan around the CQ wet season and humidity, which affect densifier and sealer cure, and around your build program or trading hours.
- → Service-specific prep — we clear and protect the area, mask off walls and fixtures, set up dust extraction on the grinders, and repair any cracks or chips so the floor is sound before the first cut.
- → The work day — we grind through progressively finer diamond pads, honing the surface in stages, then apply densifier to harden the concrete and polish up to the agreed sheen.
- → Finishing — we refine the edges and corners by hand so the polish runs right up to the walls, then check the floor under light for consistency across the whole slab.
- → Curing and aftercare — the densifier and sealer need time to cure before heavy traffic; we tell you how long to stay off it and leave simple dust-mop and damp-mop care advice to keep the finish sharp.
- → Final clean-up — we remove masking, vacuum down the dust, take our gear away and hand back a clean, finished floor ready to use.
Professionalism You Can Rely On
Polishing concrete is a skilled, staged process — get a grit step wrong or rush the densifier and the finish shows it for the life of the floor. We are a QBCC licensed and fully insured local crew who polish to a proper sequence, work to Australian Standards for the densifying and sealing products we use, and treat your home or business with the care it deserves while we are in it.
- → QBCC licensed and fully insured for your protection
- → Experienced local crew who know how CQ slabs polish up and what finish a given slab will hold
- → Quality diamond tooling, densifiers and sealers applied to the manufacturer's specification and Australian Standards
- → Proper dust extraction and masking so your space stays as clean as possible during grinding
- → Tidy, safe work site with the floor checked for consistency before we call it done
Transparent, Fixed-Price Quoting
Polished concrete pricing swings on the slab's condition, the gloss level and how much stone you want exposed, so we never quote a polished floor off a phone call. We inspect the slab, grind a test patch where it helps, then put an itemised fixed-price quote in writing. The price we quote is the price you pay — no hidden costs and no surprise variations once the grinder is running.
- → Clear written quote itemising grind, hone, polish, repairs, densifying and sealing
- → Honest advice on whether your slab suits a full mechanical polish or is better off with grind-and-seal, so you are not paying for a finish it cannot hold
- → Clear communication from quote to hand-over, so you always know the finish and the price you are getting
