Concrete Resurfacing & Repairs in Rockhampton
Not every tired slab needs to be ripped up and re-poured. A lot of the driveways, patios and paths we look at across Rockhampton are still solid underneath — they have just faded, stained, hairline cracked or worn smooth over years of CQ sun and wet seasons. In those cases, resurfacing gives you a fresh, modern surface bonded over the top of the existing concrete, at a fraction of the cost and mess of a full replacement.
Rockhampton Concreting Co resurfaces and repairs concrete for homes and businesses throughout the Rockhampton region and out to the Capricorn Coast. We use overlay, spray-on and stencil-overlay systems to transform plain, stained or dated concrete, and we repair cracks and spalling so the surface is sound before we refinish it.
We are also straight with you about when resurfacing is the right call and when you are better off replacing the slab. If the concrete is badly cracked, lifting or sinking, an overlay will only hide the problem for a while — and we will tell you that rather than sell you a finish that will not last. Every job is quoted in writing after we have assessed the slab.
What We Do
- Resurfacing of tired driveways, patios, paths and pool surrounds
- Spray-on (spray-crete) decorative overlays
- Trowel-applied overlays for a smooth or textured finish
- Stencil-overlay systems for paver, brick and stone-look patterns
- Crack repair and re-cutting of control joints
- Spalling and surface delamination repair
- Refreshing faded coloured, stencil and exposed finishes
- Honest assessment of resurface vs replace before you commit
Resurfacing Systems We Use
Resurfacing is not one product — it is a family of systems, and the right one depends on the look you want and the state of your slab. We will match the system to your surface and the result you are after.
- → Spray-on overlay — a polymer-modified cement sprayed and finished over the slab, ideal for decorative driveways and pool surrounds with a textured, non-slip surface and stencil patterns.
- → Trowel-applied overlay — a thicker overlay floated on by hand for a smooth or lightly textured finish, good for patios, alfresco areas and worn paths.
- → Stencil-overlay — paver, tile, brick and stone-look patterns laid into the overlay, giving you the look of pavers with no joints to weed and no edges to lift.
- → Microtopping and skim coats — thin overlays that refresh a smooth surface without changing its level much, handy under cover or for interior slabs.
Crack & Spalling Repair
Before any overlay goes down, the slab has to be clean, sound and properly prepared — skip that and the new surface will not bond and will lift later. We grind and clean the existing concrete, repair cracks, patch spalled and flaking areas, and respect or re-cut the control joints so movement has somewhere to go.
Spalling — where the top layer of concrete flakes and pits — is common on older Rockhampton slabs that have copped years of sun and moisture. We cut back the loose material, repair the surface and then resurface, so you get a sound finish rather than an overlay sitting on crumbling concrete.
Resurface or Replace? Honest Advice
The big question with any tired slab is whether to resurface it or replace it, and the honest answer depends on what is going on underneath. Resurfacing is the right call when the concrete is structurally sound and the issues are cosmetic — fading, staining, surface wear, minor cracking or a dated finish.
Replacement makes more sense when the slab has major structural cracks, is lifting or sinking from ground movement, or has failed sub-base preparation. An overlay bonds to the slab below it, so it can only ever be as stable as what it sits on. We assess the slab properly and give you a straight recommendation — sometimes that means talking you out of the cheaper option because it will not hold up in CQ conditions.
Our Process — From Quote to Clean-Up
A resurfacing job is only as good as the prep underneath it, so we run every job to the same clear sequence rather than skimming an overlay over a dirty, unrepaired slab. From the first look at your driveway or patio through to the final clean-up, you know what is happening and when, and the surface is only sealed once the repairs and the finish are right.
- → Site visit and assessment — we inspect the slab properly, check for structural cracks, lifting, sinking and spalling, and give you a straight read on whether resurfacing is the right call or you are better off replacing.
- → Written fixed quote — you get an itemised quote covering the resurfacing system, crack and spalling repair, colour and pattern, and sealing, so you know the exact price and finish before any work starts.
- → Booking and scheduling — we lock in a date and plan around the CQ weather, because overlays and sealers need dry conditions and the right temperature to cure — we will not lay a finish into a wet-season downpour.
- → Service-specific prep — we clean and grind the existing concrete, repair cracks, patch spalled and flaking areas, and respect or re-cut the control joints so movement has somewhere to go.
- → The work day — we apply the chosen system, whether that is a sprayed-on overlay with a stencil pattern, a trowel-applied overlay or a skim coat, building it up and finishing it to the agreed look.
- → Finishing — we lay in any stencil pattern, colour and texture, then detail the edges so the new surface runs clean to the borders.
- → Curing and cure-time — overlays need time to cure before sealing and before traffic; we tell you how long to keep off it, including how long before vehicles can go back on a resurfaced driveway.
- → Final clean-up — we seal the finish, clear our gear and debris, leave the area tidy, and hand over with simple resealing and care advice to protect the surface through CQ sun and wet seasons.
Professionalism You Can Rely On
Resurfacing is a skilled job — get the preparation wrong and the smartest-looking overlay will lift and fail within a season. We are a QBCC licensed and fully insured local crew who prep the slab properly, use quality overlay and sealer systems applied to the manufacturer's specification and Australian Standards, and leave your driveway, patio or path looking sharp without cutting corners on what sits underneath.
- → QBCC licensed and fully insured for your protection
- → Experienced local crew who know how CQ slabs weather and what an overlay can and cannot fix
- → Quality overlay, colour and sealer products applied to spec and to Australian Standards
- → Thorough prep — grinding, crack and spalling repair and joint work — so the finish bonds and lasts
- → Tidy, safe work site with the area cleaned up and sealed before we hand it back
Transparent, Fixed-Price Quoting
Resurfacing pricing depends on the area, the system you choose and how much crack and spalling repair the slab needs first, so we never quote it sight unseen. We assess the slab, then put an itemised fixed-price quote in writing covering the overlay system, repairs, colour, pattern and sealing. The price we quote is the price you pay — no hidden costs and no surprise variations once the job is underway.
- → Clear written quote itemising the resurfacing system, repairs, finish and sealing
- → Honest advice on resurface versus replace — we will talk you out of an overlay if the slab needs replacing, rather than sell you a finish that will not hold up in CQ conditions
- → Clear communication from quote to hand-over, so you always know the finish and the price you are getting
