Both finishes are extremely durable when poured properly over a well-prepared base. Heat underfoot — a real CQ consideration
In a Central Queensland summer, surface temperature matters, especially for bare feet around a pool. Lighter colours reflect more heat. Both finishes can be specified in lighter tones to stay cooler, but exposed aggregate gives you more control over colour to manage heat. Dark plain concrete can get uncomfortably hot.
Maintenance
Plain concrete needs little more than the occasional hose-down and a reseal every few years. Exposed aggregate is similar but benefits from resealing a touch more often to keep the stones bright and the surface protected. Sealing also helps both finishes resist oil stains and the harsh CQ sun.
